PALFINGER: Maximum Flexibility in Limited Space

14.03.2023

In offering the best solution for working on overhead power lines, Plasser & Theurer relies on its proven partnership with PALFINGER. Three motorized tower wagons are equipped with a PKR-265 railway crane and PA-1002 access platform with three personnel baskets. These allow work to be carried out precisely, safely and efficiently.

Overhead power line repairs often present challenges for technicians. Limited space and restricted maneuverability can make repairs and maintenance work very difficult. To provide the best equipment for working successfully in these conditions, PALFINGER has developed the PKR-265 railway cranes and PA-1002 access platforms with personnel baskets, which are integrated into Plasser & Theurer's motorized tower wagons. Plasser & Theurer handed over two of these vehicles to Europten (European transit Energy GmbH) in February, followed by another one in April 2023.

Personnel baskets and railway cranes for flexible operations

Equipped with PALFINGER's PKR-265 railway cranes and PA-1002 access platforms, the maintenance fleet guarantees that work is carried out successfully. The PKR-265 railway crane with its extendable knuckle boom for optimal work in the area of overhead power lines enables the best possible use of the limited space available. The equipment in the personnel basket is ideally matched to operators' requirements. It offers the option of powering pneumatic as well as electric tools. A floodlight that can be telescoped up to three meters above platform level and the lighting integrated into the personnel basket make it possible to work at night.

In addition, because it has three personnel baskets, the PA-1002 access platform offers maximum flexibility around complex overhead line systems. The two smaller personnel baskets can be individually raised to a height of up to nine meters and laterally shifted up to 4.5 meters. The personnel baskets are fitted with compressed air connections and 230V sockets for tools. In addition, several work lights can be flexibly attached to the platform railing wherever they are needed. The equipment is optimally adapted to customer requirements as the movements and supports can be operated using the crane's radio remote control.

Customer-oriented partnership: PALFINGER and Plasser & Theurer

Working together, PALFINGER and Plasser & Theurer rely on intensive coordination. “Our goal was to provide the best possible equipment for the complex work on overhead power lines,” says Florian Renner, Area Sales Manager at PALFINGER RAILWAY. “Together with Plasser & Theurer, we have created a versatile, practical solution for this task.”
