PALFINGER PKR290B delivered to support the Railway Infrastructure Services in Singapore

04.04.2023

8th March 2024 marked the debut of our PALFINGER Railway crane, PKR 290 B in Singapore, which arrived at the SBS Transit Sengkang Depot just weeks prior.

“We are honored to have our machines chosen and tasked with the critical role of facilitating the replacement of railway tracks within tunnels. The time-sensitive nature of the essential operations is where PALFINGER equipment shines and showcases its outstanding reliability and durability.”, said James Liu, General Manager, Palfinger Asia Pacific

With support from Gerhard Roider, PALFINGER Railway Technician who flew in from Austria, and the proficient engineers from our distributor, Wong Fong Engineering, the crane went through an exhaustive stability setup process encompassing calibration and depot commissioning. This process spanned a total of seven days at the creeper siding, ensuring optimal readiness for operational deployment.

Operating cranes within tunnel environments and beneath overhead wires demands precision to prevent damage. PALFINGER railway systems are uncompromisingly designed for railway applications. Close collaboration with the vehicle manufacturers results in perfectly matched units, thereby ensuring the optimum maintenance vehicle with unparalleled features.

A key difference between railway units from standard crane operations is the up to 8° track inclination (even more for high-speed tracks). Palfinger Railway units automatically adjust capacity and reach based on track inclination for stability and component protection.

Following the rigorous testing and checks, SBS Transit’s engineers and technicians underwent an intensive training program encompassing both practical exercises and theoretical instruction. This training equipped them with the requisite knowledge and skills to navigate operational variations and respond effectively if an emergency occurs.

This marked the end of these extensive preparations, signalling the readiness of the railway crane for active duty. We look forward to hearing about the railway crane’s performance within the tunnel environment and the potential invaluable contributions to ensuring the safety and reliability of railway tracks for all passengers.
